What the media say about us

The Mojčin dom mountain hut stands in an area where foresters, skiers and herdsmen met for decades. At the time when Mt. Vitranc was primarily a working and natural place, the huts were a shelter, a place to seek warmth and to socialise. Fire, wood and homemade food weren’t a choice – they were a necessity. And it is this spirit of simplicity and authenticity that today forms the basis for the story of the Mojčin dom hut.

Mojca's hut

The history of the Mojčin dom Preseka chairlift, which is managed by the Slovenian Physical Education Association, dates back to the start of its operation on 29th November 1948. In 1954, the Vitranc Cable Car Institute was established as part of the construction committee of the Kranjska Gora Tourist Association. The goal of the committee was to build a chairlift to Vitranc. At that time, there was no catering facility next to the Preseka chairlift, so a snack bar, called Mojca – was built right next to its route. When the new chairlift was built, the Mojca snack bar was moved to the top of Vitranc in 1958. It was renamed Mojčin dom. This was prior to construction of the Dom na Vitrancu hut. When President Tito visited Vitranc, he first stopped at Mojčin dom. Following construction of the Vitranc hut, Mojčin dom became redundant. It was sold to Štefka Bleiweis, who in turn sold it to Vitomir Modrič in 1984. In 2007, the hut was allocated functional land in the denationalisation process. On 25th May 2013, it was purchased by Primož Zupančič and Matjaž Zajc..

The new Mojca's hut

Today, on the site of the former Mojčin dom hut on Vitranc, stands the newly built Mojčin dom hut, which is continuing its tradition of being a mountain shelter, with improved conditions for visitors. The hut is in the same position and is the same height – in keeping with the surroundings – as the former building, however, its design is modern and functional, thus it can cater for larger numbers of visitors throughout the year.
The renovation was carried out due to construction of a new chairlift and ski piste on Vitranc, and the resulting expected increase in visitors, while the previous hut dating from 1958 was showing signs of wear and tear and was only open during the summer months. The new building has a cellar and is built on a concrete foundation, above which is a traditional log cabin, which beautifully combines mountain aesthetics and modern construction. The cellar has toilets and storage areas, while the ground floor features a professional kitchen and a small dining room for guests. There is a spacious terrace in front of the building, allowing visitors to enjoy the views and nature in good weather.
The aim of the new hut is to provide a constantly open catering facility, which includes food cooked in the farmers’ stove, dishes from the wood-fired cauldron and produce from Slovenian farms, while also creating a pleasant place for hikers, families and mountain lovers to take a break throughout the year. Construction and renovation of the hut was exclusively carried out by the co-owners, who obtained a building permit and implemented the project using their own funds, thus giving the Mojčin dom hut home a new, modern life in the heart of the Julian Alps.
