Vitranc Ridge

The Vitranc ridge, together with Ciprnik (1,747m) and Visoka Pec (1,749 m), are very popular destinations above the Mojčin dom mountain hut. The hut offers some of the best views of the peaks of the Julian Alps. There are two launch sites nearby for paragliding, from where there are views of the Upper Sava Valley, the Karavanke mountains, Austria, the Gurktal Alps, the Hohe Tauern, the Gailtal Alps and the Carnic Alps. The western Julian Alps in Italy can also be seen.

Hiking guide: Vitranc, Ciprnik, and Visoka Peč

The ridge trail winds through a pleasant forest with intermittent views of Podkoren, the Karavanke mountains and hills on the Austrian side. The first indistinct peak in the ridge is the peak of Vitranc, where you are greeted by abundant alpine flowers, mountain meadows and larches await. It is especially beautiful in autumn, when the landscape is coloured by warm tones. For better views and peaks, you need to hike up to Ciprnik; the trail is equipped with iron ropes and rungs for safety in several places. A moderately difficult unmarked trail leads to Visoka Peč, which ascends and descends several times along the ridge. Both Ciprnik and Visoka Peč offer one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the mid-mountain range of the Julian Alps, as both peaks boast unforgettable views of the surrounding massifs and valleys.
