Mojčin dom

Mojca's hut

One of the best experiences in Kranjska Gora is a trip to Mt. Vitranc along a circular trail amid the scenery of mid-height mountains, with an abundance of picturesque views, the option of having an excellent meal and a dose of adrenalin-fuelled fun. The Mojčin dom (Mojca’s Hut) mountain hut, located at the top of Mt. Vitranc above Kranjska Gora, is a wooden hut where local cuisine and mountain peace combine into a special experience. The hut isn’t just somewhere to stopover – it’s a place for people who appreciate comfort, the warmth of natural materials and a carefully selected choice of food and drink.

Built from solid wood, with a lot of attention to detail, as soon as visitors enter Mojčin dom they can feel a sense of homeliness and elegance. The interior combines traditional alpine elements with contemporary comfort: natural wood, handmade furniture, ambient lighting and a central farmhouse stove, which gives the space warmth and character.

The cuisine has been carefully chosen with visitors in mind who appreciate taste. This isn’t a place overrun by crowds – just quality, peace and experience. Mojčin dom is the ideal place for a relaxed break after skiing, hiking or simply to retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, over a good drink, while savouring the selected tastes and admiring the views of the surrounding mountainous nature.

The outdoor terrace in the sunny mountain setting beckons you to linger, while the interior offers shelter in all seasons. The Mojčin dom mountain hut remains true to its mountain character, while also elevating it to the level of a boutique mountain experience..

1 hour and 45 minutes (750 m elevation height difference)

Head along Borovška cesta road, past the Ramada and Kompas hotels, to the lower station of the Vitranc 1 four-seater chairlift. The marked trail to Vitranc leads from Kranjska Gora along a cart track next to the Vitranc 1 chairlift to the upper station of the Podkoren chairlift, from where the trail leads uphill beneath the new Vitranc 2 chairlift to the Mojčin dom hut..

From Kranjska Gora from Lake Jasna along the ridge – 2 hours (750 m height difference)

The most scenic trail from Kranjska Gora begins on the right side of the Vrsiska cesta road, 200 metres from Hotel Kranjska Gora when going towards Lake Jasna. The trail initially leads parallel to the road then leads up through the Mala Pišnica tributary valley. After cca. 20 minutes of hiking over the Vratnik ridge, the trail returns to the Kranjska Gora side. After a short traverse, the trail climbs steeply upwards to reach the Vratnik ridge, which continues all the way to the Mojčin dom mountain hut.

From Planica over the Vitranc peak – 2 hours 30 minutes (800 m height difference)

The trail starts in Planica at the Olympic Sports Center and follows a path through the forest with beautiful views of the Planica ski jumps, Jalovec, and Rateške Ponce. After about two hours, we join the trail that connects Vitranc with Mount Ciprnik. From here, it is only a 30-minute walk over the Vitranc peak to Mojčin dom.

The easiest way to reach the top of Vitranc is by taking the Vitranc 1 and Vitranc 2 chairlifts to reach an altitude of 1,570 metres above sea level.

Food with a soul – tastes from the open fire

At the Mojčin dom hut, food isn’t just an addition, rather it’s part of the story. Every dish is created considering the rhythm of nature, the seasons and traditions, which have been part of life here for many, many years. The range of food on offer is based on dishes that are made exclusively using locally produced and home-grown ingredients, with no shortcuts or industrial flavours.

Food is prepared in a way that befits the hut’s mountainous setting – slowly, over an open fire and with feeling. Various stews are cooked in the wood-fired cauldron, while shanks of meat and potatoes are roasted slowly in the farmhouse oven, thus allowing the full flavours to develop.

Wood-fired cauldron

Various stews are cooked slowly in a wood-fired cauldron. The fire, time and carefully selected ingredients created a full, deep flavour, which is reminiscent of real mountain food from bygone days.

Farmhouse stove

Shanks of meat and potatoes are roasted in the farmhouse stove. The slow process of roasting in the heat of the fire ensures the meat is tender on the inside, crispy on the outside and has a characteristic aroma that fills the entire place.

Selected wines and homemade spirits

The food is complemented by a range of quality wines and homemade spirits, carefully chosen to pair perfectly with mountain cuisine. Such flavours round off a meal and invite you to linger and socialise a while longer.
